My dear All,

One of my server we have set the Max server memory to 24GB and min server memory for2GB and left 8gb for OS on the last month. But 3days onwards we are observing that in theTask manager 'sqlservr.exe' is listing as utilizing Memory (Private Working set) as 27,236,920K and Memory (Working set) as 27,289,284K(Screenshot attached).

1. Here Max server memory  24GB +  min server memory for 2GB= Memory (Private Working set) as 27,236,920K? Please clarify?
2. How can we prove that SQL Server is not using more than Max server memory?
3. All SQL server processes will run under Max server memory value? if not, How can i explain to application owner that Max server memory not limit remaining unreserved memory area that SQL Server leaves for allocations of other components.?
4. What are the other components which are not covering by buffer pool?
5. How to prove that Task manager is not good indicater for SQL server memory calculations?

6. Which are all come under Buffer pool and non Buffer pool as per the above screenshot?

Kindly reply with suggestions and best approches to track the memory usage.. Please dont hesitate to reply.

Serverdetails:

SQL server 2008R2 Enterprise 64Bit with windows 2008 server.

Thanks in Advance,

Nagesh
