Hi. I need to create a process to collect performance counter information from 50-100 SQL instances. We have a new virtual environment with 3 new SANs. I've been looking online for information and see that both TypePerf.exe and the Powershell cmdlet Get-Counter can be used to collect the counter information. TypePerf has an option to log to a SQL Server table. I could also use Powershell to collect and then insert the data into a table.
I will have a dedicated SQL instance for running and collecting the counters. I can run TypePerf using a scheduled windows job or as a agent job. Same for the Powershell. I might want to use different collection intervals for some counters. I think this would require running more than one instance of TypePerf, but I have not seen any information about doing so.
Does anybody have advice on which method would be better?
Thanks.
