We've got 2 DB servers, connected to a SAN via fiberchannel connection.
We've had periodic (1-2) crashes a week off an on, but have become more frequent.
The only thing running on the servers is SQL Server (the main app). the behavior we typically see before a crash are that no additional DB connections are allowed, then our hosting company's alert systems kick in, saying they can't ping the machines. Sometimes you can RDP to the machines, but the only way to recover them is a hard reboot.
Originally the hosting company thought it was disk contention within the SAN, so we separated out the log files to a different physical space, which caused the crashing to stop for about 3 weeks. Now we're back in the same scenario, but neither us, nor the hosting company can come up with the cause.
These are physical DB servers, not virtual. I can provide the specs if you'd like, but we're pretty much out of options!!
This is SQL Server 2008 R2, with all the service packs applied as of last month.
Help!
Thanks,
Chris
