when troubleshooting performance issues, are not these three columns in sysprocesses referred to/checked?

most of the articles I find on the subject on the net, seem to refer to various DMVs, but not these columns or even the sysprocesses table.

any particular reason why?

appreciate the feedback.

I have tried logging on to Windows as a different user.

I have tried changing the account that SQL Server service uses to Log on from Network Service to Local System or Local Service but I get the error: "Cannot find object or property."

Also, I noticed when I opened up Internet Explorer which the home page is Google, it could not connect, but did connect to other websites.

Any ideas what may have happened to my laptop?

Thanks for your help,

Design Database for Reports

$

I am using sql 2008 R2 SE. Currently I have separated out our reports databases that are being used for internal purpose. However these report databases are logshipped secondary databases being hosted on secondary server. The reason I separated reports databases from the transactional databases is I didnt wanted the queries being used for reports causing blocking and deadlocks with queries being used by our apps.

However due to growth in data the queries that I used in the rdl files are taking longer time to run. So some reports are taking very long time to load and output the results. And since I am querying against the standby secondary database I cannot add indexes. But the query execution plan suggests that adding some indexes would improve the performance by almost 90%. If I add these indexes to the primary database then its degrading performance as its causing slowness in the applications. And the applications and the reports built are using different queries.

I want to take experts opinions on how to implement a better strategy for reports in this scenario. Experts please share your valuable thoughts.

SQL SERVER 2012 Database Engine login issues

I've installed MS SQL SERVER 2012 Standard Edition. WHat i'm facing now is the SQL SERVER will auto change my "sa" login password to soemthing else. I had put a password to "xxx", but when login to "sa" account using SQL Authentication mode, it will prompt login failed for user "sa".

So, i change to WIndow Authentication mode and login , then from there i change the "sa" password to the original value. Now i login again with the password using SQL authentication and it works.

But my question is - Why the password will auto change after sometime? does it relate to sticter security policy in SQL SERVER 2012?

Please advice.

Hi All,

When I randomly checking the temp files I noticed that the.mdf file of temp DB is not in use since the 6 .ndf files were created.

There are 6 CPUs and 6 .ndf files created for one of each. Is it stopping SQL Server not to use the primary data file. Any idea?

Thanks

service-specific error code -2146885628- MS SQL Server 2008 r2 Express

$

I have had no end of problems starting my MS SQL Server 2008 r2 Express.

My database program (Sage ACT! Pro 2011) starts fine. However when it attempts to start my default database, I get the following error message:

When I start my database within my application software (ACT Pro 2011) , I get the following error:

I am not abler to open any database with in ACT 2011. This error tells me that I must manually start SQL Server. I am running Windows 7 Pro, SP1. So I go to Services, and right click on SQL Server (ACT7) and click start and get the following error:

I have contacted Swiftpage and spent 2 hours on the phone with their technical support. They manually (via remote desktop connection) deleted ACT Pro 2011 and manually deleted SQL Server 2008 r2 Express (in registry and all files and folders).

I decided to upgrade, so ACT Pro v16 was installed. SQL Server still would not start automatically or manually. The ACT technical support person, after two very long hours said: that it is not an ACT problem, that I would need to turn to Microsoft for a resolution as to why SQL Server will not start, and how to remedy this issue.

I hope someone can offer help or point me in the direction to get this very bad problem resolved. I cannot work without my CRM! can someone help?

Thanks!

DBCC OLEDB Bottleneck?

$

Is there anything I can do for a OLEDB wait type?

After restarting my instance, I started a DBCC checkdb on a 200 GB database that uses the spatial data type.  A couple of tables have 250 million rows.  There are no indexes on computed columns or filtered indexes.  It's been running about 2 hours and the percent complete is about 2%.  The estimated completion date (4 days from now) has been increasing by about and hour a minute.  It might be weeks before it completes.  (I'm using a db restored on my desktop - 6-core Zeon, 16 GB, and 2 SSDs - with SQL 2012 Developer SP2.  I enabled trace flags 2562 and 2549 enabled.  Compatibility on the db was changed to 2012 from 2008.)

I looked at the wait stats and see the OLEDB wait type at almost 100%.  When I look at the activity monitor "Resource Waits", the only wait I see is Network IO - about 1 sec per sec.  "Data File IO" is at 0.0 MB/sec with response times normally at 0 ms, but can be 2 ms from time to time.  CPU use is about 10%.  My machine feels idle.

An AVG scan recently started and just finish.  It did not seem to slow anything down or change the waits.  But that makes me wonder.  Can a real-time virus scanner be a source of the OLEDB waits?  Would it also show up as network io wait?

Any advice that can help me find the bottleneck would be appreciated.  It would great if I could move the bottleneck to CPU or disk.

Thanks.

How does database full backup impact user login ?

$

Hello everyone,

Now many our sql server 2008 r2 sp1 servers start to report errors when daily full database backup job starts:

2014-07-11 01:19:04.980spid59sDatabase mirroring is inactive for database 'XXXX'. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.

2014-07-11 01:19:45.700 spid2346
Error: 18056, Severity: 20, State: 29.
2014-07-11 01:19:45.700 spid2346
The client was unable to reuse a session with SPID 2346, which had been reset for connection pooling. The failure ID is 29. This error may have been caused by an earlier operation failing. Check the error logs for failed operations immediately before this error message.

When i want to connect to one of servers when a big database is being backuped fully using management studio ,i feel a long time delay. But at the that time , cpu is low , memory related performance counters are normal.
So i wonder if there are some system resource contention when database full backup happens ,and this contention impact login progress.

Our databases are all configured for database mirroring, and we use litespeed software to backup database.

I have no idea on how to troubleshoot this problem ,and it seems profiler and  new extended event have no events about this. So any advice or some tools/ways to deep troubleshooting ?

Many thanks.
