Memory requirements for SQL Server 2019 TempDB MetaData In Memory

$

Hello,

OS - Windows 2019 Enterprise

SQL Server 2019 Enterprise

Virtual Environment running on VMWare

We have 48 GB Memory assigned to SQL Server (Max Memory), OS has 6 GB, i.e, total memory is 54 GB

I was wondering if there is specification on additional memory requirement to utilize the tempdb meta data in memory feature or we could just turn on tempdb meta data in memory feature as is without provisioning additional memory.

Looking for best practice as well as feature requirement. I could not find this information and was leaning towards "no requirements and test and configure approach"

Thank you.

Hi All,

I am looking for a better option to do migration from oracle database to Sql azure database which are in different networks.

Oracle db server is in one network ex: Network A and the db size is 50GB.

SQL azure db is in another network Ex:Network B

If i am in network A, i can't connect o the SQL azure. But i can access SQL azure db using an azure VM throughNetwork A.

If i am in network B ,i can't connect o the oracle db.

I am planning to do migration from oracle my local SQL server db using SSMA as both are inNetwork A.

From local SQL server db to azure SQL server by using Bacpac files using Azure VM by copying file.

Can someone help me if there is any other best way to do this type of migration. Also, oracle database has few xml objects.

Thanks!

Agent job executing proc fails with string or binary data truncated, runs without error when ran thru SSIS in agent job.

have a monthly sql agent job that executes a stored proc and it fails with string or binary data would be truncated error.. I restore the database and log files to a dev machine to get back to the point in time when the failure happens and the proc runs successful from SSMS. The proc will run successfully if ran as an execute sql task in SSIS via agent job. I tried adding SET TEXSIZE -1 to see if it was failing due to the agent job itself but it still failed. This is on a 2008 R2 standard edition server. Anyone have any ideas?

SQL Serve 2019 - Linux - Memory

Hi All,

We have some problems running SQL Server 2019 on Linux (VM).
We have server with 4CPUs and 48GB RAM, but SQL doesn't want to use that memory.
License / best practices, all have been checked. SQL sees the RAM, but uses only few GBs under pressure.

Do you have any ideas what else could we check?

sql_physical_memory_in_use_MB: 4096
sql_VAS_reserved: 4096
sql_VAS_available_MB: 134213631
sql_memory_utilization_percentage: 100

Thx,

SSMS shows different value for number of NUMA nodes than sql error log

$

So, i am trying to calculate MAXDOP on a new server and this is what i see:

SSMS - Processors - Shows 2 numa nodes (0 & 1) each having 10 cpu's

But when i look at the sql error log, i see entries which suggest # of NUMA nodes = 4 (Numa 0,1,2,3)

select numa_node_count from sys.dm_os_sys_info

gives - 4

So i am a bit confused , Do i have 2 numa nodes with 10 cpu's each OR do i have 4 numa nodes with 5 CPU's each?

How to sync sql data between two databases in same instance?

I am using SQL Server 2016 Standard edition in my production server.

I am looking a solution to sync data from my production database to another database in same instance and I want to make second database in read only mode for reporting.

Is it possible to implement Log shipping/replication in same instance? And if replication is possible what type of replication will be best for this?

Please suggest the best way or technology to do this in details.

I have got the error for Event ID 2003 and 1010 about the SQL DDL.

First: Event ID 2003 :

The configuration information of the performance library "perf-<>-sqlctr11.4.7462.6.dll" for the "<>" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.

Second Event ID 1010:

The Collect Procedure for the "DTSPipelinePerf110.dll" service in DLL "DTSPipeline110" generated an exception or returned an invalid status. The performance data returned by the counter DLL will not be returned in the Perf Data Block. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the exception code or status code.

I have serveral Questions:

1. What's the impact when seeing these error ?

2. How it is triggered ?

3. How to solve it ?

$

Hi All,

I have received a backup file from customer, before restore i have queried for storage space using backup file command

Restore filelistonly from disk='.../test.bak';

It returns

.mdf file size = 2.2TB

.ldf file size = 600 GB

But the given machine has each single drives (D:, E:) contains 2TB each

Is there any method to split the file to restore the backup file?

Thanks in Advance,

PolyBase with MongoDB ReplicaSets

$

I am trying to create an external Data Source to a MongoDB ReplicaSet (3 nodes) with SQL Server 2019's PolyBase feature. I have tried a variety of URIs and continue to get the error:

Msg 105001, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
External access operation failed because the location URI is invalid. Revise the URI and try again.

If I only use the Primary MongoDB servername as the URI the Data Source is successfully created. But once I try to add the rest of the replicaset, it does not work.

Below is my create stmt:

CREATE EXTERNAL DATA SOURCE [Test_DataSource]
WITH
(
LOCATION = 'mongodb://servername01.whatever.com:27017,servername02.whatever.com:27017,servername03.whatever.com:27017',
CREDENTIAL = [Test_Cred]
)
GO

I have also tried adding the normal MongoDB connection string info with the replica set name to the end, but I get the same error message. Has anyone tried to use Polybase with a MongDB ReplicaSet yet? Please let me know the proper syntax for the Data Source. Thanks!
